The software reads teacher scripts with appropriate inflections and pace, allowing you to focus solely on student behavior and learning. You can set up instruction as a class or individually. Students create unique avatars and progress is recorded as assessments are taken at the end of each level.
Software and app have an easy-to-use interface and student management system, and are touch screen and switch compatible.
Our Early Literacy Skills Builder iPad App is based on five years of scientific research to teach fundamental literacy skills to children with significant disabilities. Conducted at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, the study showed consistently higher scores on all literacy measures, compared to control groups using the Edmark Reading Program. This unique, rigorous program is now available in an easy-to-use app that your students will love!

Early Literacy Skills Builder is a research-based literacy program. ELSB is a powerful curriculum for students with significant developmental disability, including autism, who need to develop the foundations of literacy (conventions of print, phonemic awareness, letter-sound correspondence, and some sight word vocabulary). In addition, ELSB develops vocabulary knowledge, plus supports comprehension and writing awareness. It incorporates scripted lessons, prompting strategies for assisting students, assistive technology suggestions, and ongoing assessments. The eight ELSB levels include five structured lessons each. All students begin at Level 1, but students who are not responding to pictures begin at Level A.
Lessons are taught daily in small groups (or one-to-one) for the skill-building objectives. An additional story-based lesson (usually presented later in the day) using literature from the students’ grade level, helps students generalize the skills and gives them access to general education curricula. At the completion of each level, formal assessments are given. Levels are repeated until mastery is achieved.
ELSB is also available as a blended curriculum, seamlessly integrating print materials with software and an iPad app. Everything you need to implement this multiyear literacy curriculum is included. Then, follow ELSB with our reading curriculum, Early Reading Skills Builder.
