Welcome to the Early Literacy Skills Builder (ELSB) Pilot Study resource site.

We are providing two reporting options for monitoring the progress of students in your pilot study:

  • The ELSB Progress Report, which can be used to provide details regarding your students’ progress at regular intervals (e.g., end of semester, end of year). Be sure to indicate the level and the lesson of the student’s starting and ending points.
  • The Classroom Summary Form, which can be used to share how students performed on the ELSB end of level assessments. Transfer scores from the students’ recording booklets to this form following the level assessment.

Both forms provide a place for adding comments and optional information (e.g., standardized assessment information, observations of literacy behaviors occurring outside of the lessons, such as asking to be read to, changes in communication or motor behaviors, parents’ comments about changed behaviors at home, etc.).

Your supervisor will indicate which forms you should use, how often you should complete them, and where you should send them once completed.

Remember to set aside approximately 90 minutes each day for literacy development: 60 mins. for the ELSB Building with Sounds and Symbols lessons—which focus on phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, reading comprehension, and vocabulary—and 30 minutes for the Building with Stories component—the story-based lessons using classroom literature.

These ELSB Pilot Study forms can be downloaded to your desktop. They are available in two file formats:

  • Adobe PDF file to print, fill out, and send to your supervisor, or
  • Microsoft Word file to fill out electronically, save, then email to your supervisor.
