How to Augment Your Current Special Ed. Curriculum on a Budget

Two of Attainment's Curriculum Enhancements: AT Tools and Functional Literacy Resources

The Attainment blog is all about providing resources and support
to educators,
so with that in mind, one of our regular features will be Teacher FAQs.  We’ll share the questions we often see in our inboxes or hear from teachers at conferences, demos and webinars. If you have a question you’d like to see us answer here, please share it in the comments!

Q: I’m interested in using Attainment’s Core Curriculum Solutions, but my school just invested in another curriculum. Do you have any products that I could use alongside my current curriculum, in areas where it’s not as comprehensive?

This is a question that we’ve heard quite a bit—in fact it inspired us to create products with just this kind of situation in mind. Our #1 goal is to provide the resources you need, so even if you’re not using our full curriculum, we want to make sure you have a full set of tools to work with. Maybe you’ve made a significant investment in another publisher’s curriculum, and you don’t have the budget and/or need to replace it at this particular moment. If your current curriculum leaves something to be desired as far as research-based lessons and activities, multi-media materials and interactive software, we do have products that can help.

Attainment’s Curriculum Enhancements are instructional supports for students with intellectual disabilities or autism, in the areas of literacy, life skills, math, and social skills.  We also offer two tool bundle enhancements: Math Tools and AT Tools. Each one is user-friendly, aligned to standards, and read to use right out of the box. No matter what curriculum you have in place, enhancements can upgrade your classroom instruction quickly and inexpensively, with hands-on and print materials as well as multimedia software.

What’s in the box?  Here are a couple of examples:

Enhance: AT Tools
A great combination of our most popular Assistive Technology tools, including:

• Gotalk 9+, our most popular GoTalk
• 6 single message GoTalk Ones for classroom
  labeling and basic communication
• Versatile Big Button with Steps and Levels
• Large Communication Book for a low-tech solution
• GoTalk Overlay Software for professional-looking
  communication grids and visual schedules

Enhance: Functional Literacy Resources
Age-appropriate content and well-crafted activities aligned to standards, plus comprehensive, user-friendly software:

• Life Skill Readers Book with 40 illustrated stories
• Safety Skills Reader Book with 26 illustrated stories
• What’s Cool About Music Book with 30 Illustrated stories
• Corresponding interactive software for Life Skill, Safety Skill,
   and Music books
• Learning to Work Book featuring 18 illustrated stories

If you feel there’s something missing from your current curriculum, chances are, we have an enhancement that can fill the gap and enrich your classroom. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments!
