"Every student has something to contribute": Interview with René Zelt

Introducing René Zelt, our new Training and Accounts Manager for Texas!

Over the last several years we have worked with René in her role as Special Education Coordinator for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in the Houston, Texas area.  Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (or CyFair as Texans like to call it) is one of the 25 largest school systems in the country and René has dedicated 17 years to the district, starting as a Life Skills Teacher and moving on to become a Behavior Specialist, Life Skills Curriculum Coach, and ultimately the Elementary Special Education Coordinator. We're so excited to welcome her to Attainment!

What inspired you to work in this field?

I have always been drawn to education and providing quality specialized services for students.  I believe that all students can learn and that every student has something to contribute during instruction. That said, I recognize that finding ways to reach all students can be challenging, but it is the challenge that I love. My educational career has continuously provided me with opportunities to grow and expand my knowledge base and I am always looking to share what I am learning with others.

What do you enjoy about working with teachers and administrators?

Working in education, I have found that teachers and administrators all have a common goal and that is student success and learning. Having the opportunity to work collaboratively with both teachers and administrators to reach their goals through increased student engagement and learning is one thing that I find very rewarding. I love hearing success stories and seeing the excitement that teachers experience when they feel successful and know that they are making a positive impact in the lives of their students by providing them with meaningful instruction. I love coming up with creative ideas of how students can demonstrate what they know and how to provide students with meaningful access to the general curriculum.

What are you hoping to achieve at Attainment?

I have had the opportunity to see first-hand the positive impact that Attainment Company’s curriculum products can have on student learning and achievement. I am hoping to be able to utilize my personal experiences to have a larger impact on student learning and teacher success across the state of Texas.

Do you have a favorite Attainment curriculum or product, and why?

It would be difficult for me to pick a single curriculum or product as a favorite because I truly am a huge fan of so many of them. I absolutely love that the curriculum products are so user-friendly and allow teachers and support staff to provide quality instruction utilizing evidence-based practices that promote student success.

ELSB boxes

However, I can say that I am partial to both the ELSB and ERSB Reading Curricula. I have witnessed students that were thought to be non-readers become readers through consistent use of these two products. I enjoy seeing students develop a love and excitement for reading. When a student is able to acquire basic reading skills, so many future opportunities become available to them.
