2017 Update: Stages Math Software

We are celebrating our new 2017 catalog with a giveaway that makes sense—number sense that is!

Enter to win one of ten Stages Math Software, a number sense program for basic math concepts.

Stages Math Software was developed with Madalaine Pugliese, MS, EdS, and her Stages Framework. Stages Math supports students with special needs by facilitating access to math standards for typically developing pre-K to 3rd graders. Check out the Stages Framework and the Stages Math Software pages for additional information and samples.

What makes this software different? Stages Math offers a complete software intervention program for number sense through instruction and assessment. It monitors student progress and increases in difficulty, all while scaffolding learning with customizable settings.

Stages Math Software includes nine key skill areas:

  1. Words for Numbers:  Connect numerals with written and spoken names
  2. Count:  Count objects up to 100, make number sets, use place value up to 999
  3. Compare:  Choose between more or less, recognize math comparison symbols
  4. Sequence:  Skip count, identify ordinals, put numbers in order
  5. Math Facts:  Add, subtract, multiply, and divide at many levels; solve word problems
  6. Money:  Count money, choose coins and bills to match a written amount
  7. Number Line:  Locate numbers, estimate large and small numbers, use fraction and decimal equivalents
  8. Fractions:  Fill in sections of shapes, from halves to 12ths
  9. Time:  Identify time on the hour, quarter hour, and minute

The program accumulates student performance over time, which helps you build meaningful student portfolios.

      Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your question! Stages Math Software helps students with moderate to severe disabilities or autism by focusing on the development of foundational number sense concepts up to a 3rd grade level. This population tends to need additional support with these skills and the program provides scaffolding and customizable settings for each individual. Research has shown that when students do develop these fundamental skills, they are better able to access later math skills.

The Stages Math Software is also offered in iPad app format. If you are interested in trying it out, please feel welcome to download a free version from the Apple Store: You will be able to see one of the nine activities.

      Hi Amy,
The strategies used within the program were not designed specifically for students with dyslexia, however please feel welcome to check-out a free trial of the app version of the program at the Apple Store to see if it would help your students. If there is a specific feature you are curious about, I would be happy to speak with you further!

Great question! Students of any age who have not mastered early number sense skills for typically developing pre-k to 3rd graders would benefit from the program. The prerequisite skill for the program is understanding 1:1 correspondence.

  • Are there timed sessions? Or, what is the average length of a learning session?

Hi Helen, the program tracks how long it takes a student to complete a lesson and the lessons can be set to include 5-100 questions each. The average length of a session depends upon the student and how many questions are included. Thanks for your message!

Thanks Lori! Yes, anyone who is learning or who needs additional practice with counting, words for numbers, comparing, sequencing, money, number lines, fractions, and time would benefit! We also have a Functional Math Software bundle that includes life skills math geared toward older students that might be of interest.

Will you have a lending program available for teachers to try the software before purchasing?

Danielle, we do not offer a lending program for the software. However, the software is the same program as the Stages Math iPad App and we have a free trial version of the app on the Apple Store if you are interested in trying it! Hope this helps!
