Kids learn best when they are purposefully engaged, and math manipulatives help them to grasp abstract concepts. Hands-On Math teaches a wide range of standards-based math lessons to students with an intellectual disability and/or autism, regardless of age.
At the heart of Hands-On Math, is a set of four number lines used to demonstrate concepts and help solve related math problems. Hands-On Math lessons are organized into Skill Areas and Activities. The three Skill Areas (Counting, Sets, and Categories, Symbols, and Patterns) are divided into five activities. Each activity has four lessons. Both activities and lessons progress in difficulty. Photo-illustrated instructions help teachers present the lesson.
Students work independently or in small groups to solve problems. Both representational (pictures) and abstract (numbers and symbols) formats are presented on the laminated Activity Cards, offering differentiation for each lesson. The Student Workbook provides additional practice with symbolic representation. Each student may use their own workbook to document answers for each activity. Follow the photo-rich Instructor’s Guide to prepare for and to set up a lesson quickly. Digital practice activities and task analysis lists are available on the Attainment HUB for download.
The Curriculum Plus includes Instructor’s Guide, Scope and Sequence Guide, 10 consumable Student Workbooks, Number Book, 4 number lines, activity and symbol cards, pegs and bins, dice, number disks, access to downloadable digital activities on the Attainment HUB, and samples of communication overlays.
Check out the Samples and Support Tab above for information about the Scope and Sequence by Level and by Skill Area.
