Enhance: Life Science enriches life science lessons through a multimedia approach. The Enhance Kit includes a How To Guide, 60 Big Idea Cards, 12 original videos, and an Animal Cell Model to provide for hands-on learning. It also introduces new, content-related vocabulary terms embedded into each Big Idea Card. Each Big Idea Card includes reading passages and a QR code leading to video animations demonstrating difficult topics in a simplified way. A specific fact related to the big idea, labeled "Did You Know?" is featured in each Big Idea Card to pique student interest.
ANIMAL CELL MODEL
The Animal Cell Model serves as a hands-on tool to teach students all about cells. Open it up to find important organelles—including the nucleus, mitochondria, and cell membrane. Use the model as an example of models used in the study of life science, or to show how all living things are made up of cells. Compare the model to microscopic images of cells to help students understand how small cells are. Use images of plant or bacteria cells to help students compare and contrast cells in different living things. Tips for how to best use the Animal Cell Model to support student understanding and foster engagement are included throughout the Big Idea Cards.
BODY SYSTEM OVERLAYS AND POSTERS
Attainment’s Explore Life Science includes Body System Overlays and posters to help students visualize complex concepts. The Body System Overlays depict the six body systems covered in the curriculum. Use them to point out important organs, muscles, bones, and other body parts, or to show how systems are connected. Posters include a Timeline of Life on Earth poster, MyPlate poster, and a Molecules poster. These posters may be utilized to dive deeper into concepts taught. Ways to incorporate the overlays and posters are called out in the Big Idea Cards.
Read the Big Idea caption and review the corresponding image. Read the text to learn details and supporting facts about the Big Idea and see more images. Each Big Idea Card also includes an interesting fact, labeled "Did You Know?"
Watch an original video by scanning the QR code. Each video is focused on the Big Picture, incorporating the five Big Ideas in each chapter. Each video may be shown before and/or after reading the text to support student understanding.
Vocabulary words are included with each Big Idea Card. Each vocabulary word is defined on the card with its corresponding icon and is used in a sentence throughout the text.
