Attainment’s Explore Biology Curriculum teaches students about living things, photosynthesis, cells, evolution, and genes. It contains real-world examples of biology in everyday life. The curriculum is aligned to standards for students in grades 9-12.
Explore Biology includes Student Books with 12 chapters of content, each split into five Big Ideas. A QR code leads students to an original video based on the five Big Ideas. Each Big Idea includes two content-based vocabulary words and four images. The fourth image corresponds to the "Did You Know?" section, which gives students the opportunity to learn an interesting fact related to the Big Idea content. A Discovery page to foster discussion or provide an activity is included after the Big Ideas. The chapter ends with a 10-question quiz.
Consumable Student Workbooks (presented as a 2-book set) are included to coincide with the lesson content.
The accompanying Instructor's Guide incorporates lesson plans for all 60 Big Ideas. Using evidence-based practices, the Instructor's Guide provides instructors with effective teaching strategies for all students. The Examine It! section in each Big Idea makes use of the provided Animal Cell Model, allowing students to understand difficult concepts through hands-on learning. It also features content-based activities that instructors can implement to increase student understanding and foster engagement.
Extension Activities at the end of each lesson permit students to delve deeper into specific topics. A UDL chart is incorporated into each Big Idea lesson, using evidence-based practices. Each lesson also offers language builders, in order to relate the content to other learning goals for English learners and students with disabilities. Term tests are available in two levels for all six units.
The Explore Biology Software allows for students to enrich their learning through online courses and activities, including reading passages, videos, quizzes, and editable worksheets. An alternate level is available for students who need minimal supports. The software offers a built-in reward structure to reinforce student learning and allows instructors to track student progress instantly. A 1-Year Web-Based Subscription is included with Curriculum Plus kits.
Curriculum Includes: One Student Book, an Instructor’s Guide with downloadable, reproducible content, one set of Consumable Student Workbooks (Book One and Book Two), Big Ideas Cards, Vocabulary Cards, a Script Procedure Card, Reference Guides, the Animal Cell Model, and digital files on the HUB.
Curriculum Plus Includes: 10 sets of Consumable Student Workbooks (10 copies of Book One and 10 copies of Book Two), the entire page set of Student Workbook pages as accessible GoWorksheets (iPad only), a one-year web-based software subscription, and samples of communication overlays. The GoWorksheets can be used with the free GoWorksheet app or the full GoWorksheet Plus app available on the App Store.
