The Explore Earth Science curriculum teaches students about Earth's spheres, history, and climate, along with our solar system and the greater universe. The curriculum is aligned to standards for students in grades 6-12.
It includes Student Books with 12 chapters of content, each split into 5 big ideas. Each big idea features an original video, demonstrating tough concepts in a simplified way. A Discovery page in each chapter allows students to focus on a specific topic in detail. Each chapter ends with a 10-question quiz.
Student Workbooks (presented as a 2-book set) are included to coincide with the lesson content.
The accompanying Instructor's Guide includes scripted lesson plans for all 60 big ideas. The Examine It! section in each big idea makes use of the provided Earth and Jupiter models, providing opportunities for hands-on learning. Real-Life Connections are also included in each big idea section to relate abstract concepts to students' everyday life. Each big idea lesson plan in the Instructor's Guide ends with Extension Activities to provide additional information and reinforce previously taught concepts. A UDL chart is incorporated into each lesson, along with evidence-based practices like time delay and model-lead-test. Each lesson also includes language builders, in order to relate the content to other learning goals for English learners and students with disabilities. Term tests are available in two levels for all six units.
The associated Courseware content allows for students to enrich their learning through online courses and activities, including reading passages, videos, quizzes, and editable worksheets. An alternate level is available for students who need minimal supports. Courseware offers a built-in reward structure to reinforce student learning and allows instructors to track student progress instantly. One software license and a 1-Year Web-Based Subscription is included with Curriculum Plus kits.
Curriculum Includes: One Student Book, an Instructor’s Guide with downloadable, reproducible content, one set of consumable Student Workbooks (Book One and Book Two), Big Ideas Cards, Vocabulary Cards, a Script Procedure Card, one Jupiter Model, and one Earth Model.
Curriculum Plus Includes: The Curriculum plus 10 sets of consumable Student Workbooks (10 copies of Book One and 10 copies of Book Two), the entire page set of workbook pages as accessible GoWorksheets (iPad only), a one-year web-based software subscription, and samples of communication overlays. The GoWorksheets can be used with the free GoWorksheet app or the full GoWorksheet Plus app available on the App Store.
