The Explore Earth Science Software is an online course that covers standards-based Earth science concepts through a multimedia approach: anticipatory sets, vocabulary ID and comprehension, text-to-speech reading passages, videos, quizzes, and term tests. Delve into the Earth's distinct spheres and examine space and the solar system through this application. Sixty big ideas, including 60 corresponding videos, content-specific vocabulary terms, and comprehension and writing activities, are all included in the online course. To help differentiate instruction, the software includes an alternate level, Level A, for students who need symbol supports and minimal text.
To reinforce student learning and enhance student engagement, we've integrated a reward structure. Students celebrate vocabulary victories, content conquests, and video adventures with colorful badges and souvenirs, like stamps, trophies, and artifacts, as they progress through the course. A base station serves as a gateway to exploratory adventures in the Andes, Egypt, and the Australian Outback. Students can also earn coins for rewards in the avatar store or play arcade games to acknowledge their individual successes! Sound effects, music, and the gamification (e.g., reward system) can all be turned off or customized for each student.
Progress is tracked instantly, noting correct and incorrect responses, as well as needed prompts. Term tests can be used as both pre- and post-assessments to determine present levels of performance and content mastery.
