This curriculum is uniquely designed for high school students who have moderate-to-severe disabilities (including those with an intellectual disability and autism) who are accessing high school standards in English language arts (ELA). It addresses the needs of students who may be readers or nonreaders; verbal or nonverbal; have a visual impairment; or be an abstract, a concrete, or an object learner. With thoughtful preparation, you can meet the needs of each of your students.
The curriculum includes seven units of study in two major themes:

UNIT 7 : WISE DECISIONS: INFORMATIONAL TEXT
Access English II develops skills that fall under the ELA strands of Reading: Literature, Informational Text, Foundational Skills; Speaking and Listening; Writing; and Language. Materials are aligned to high school English language arts content using grade-appropriate literature and include ideas for conversation, research, and transition activities. This curriculum provides broad and deep access to grade-level state standards for grades 11 and 12. Across the units, the 44 lessons focus on a variety of skills such as vocabulary knowledge and ideas, self-determination, self-advocacy, and research to build knowledge. Alignment of each unit to state standards is demonstrated in an alignment chart found in the Appendix.
This comprehensive curriculum includes everything you need to teach upper-level, grade-aligned ELA content: 2 Instructor's Guides, 1 Student Reader, 1 Student Reader Instructor's Edition, 1 Student Response Book, 2 consumable Writing Journals, a Prompting Reference Guide, various card sets, posters, and copies of the two novels (Walk Two Moons and The Namesake).
