Nouns and Sounds is an engaging program that increases auditory awareness and builds critical listening skills. Students explore nouns, match them with 100 realistic photographs, identify common environmental sounds, and play games that exercise auditory and visual short-term memory. Of the 100 nouns used in the program, half are acquired by typically developing children by 2½ years of age, while the remainder are acquired later.

First Categories Software uses 60 common nouns in six categories to teach categorization skills. Innovative activities, 120 illustrations, 120 photographs, and exciting 3-D animation make this program fun and effective. Choose full-screen scenes and 3-D blocks for learners who are motivated by visual stimulation, or a simple black background for those who are easily distracted.

Language for Theory of Mind® helps students understand that what happens in the minds of others plays a critical role in explaining their behavior. Theory of Mind (ToM) involves the recognition that people have sensations, desires, knowledge, thoughts, and beliefs that influence their behavior. Researchers have increasingly recognized the importance of language for the development of ToM.

Fundamental to the development of ToM is an appreciation of how others come to possess information. This program helps students master verbs of perception (i.e., see, hear, smell, taste, feel) in various contexts and understand what others can or cannot perceive. Teaching the syntax and semantics of these verbs of perception is an important foundational step in the development of ToM. This program also introduces verbs of intention/desire (e.g., want, need) and helps students understand that other people’s wants and needs plays a critical role in explaining their behavior.

The Following Directions program features engaging 3-D objects, characters, and animated reinforcements. Following Directions® uses Laureate’s Optimized Intervention® technology to tailor instructional delivery to each student’s unique needs. It begins with an assessment to determine where to start and then automatically guides the student through the entire curriculum. The program continually monitors responses to provide highly individualized intervention. When the student masters a module, the program automatically moves to the next module. Extensive data collection and built-in reports allow you to quickly assess progress and ensure accountability.

My House, My Town, and My School encourage students to explore and interact with over 400 functional vocabulary words in realistic contexts. You select which scenes to use and how many items are shown in each scene. Using Laureate’s Optimized Intervention® technology, the programs begin by offering instruction on each object in a scene. Then the student is asked to identify the items without instruction. Once the student can identify each vocabulary item in a scene without instruction, the program automatically moves to the next scene. Optimized Intervention® can also be used to teach the function of each item. Comprehensive built-in reports document performance and ensure accountability.
