Smart Choices for a Digital Age 2: Community and the Workplace is a social skills program with an accompanying Teacher's Guide, Student Reader, Student Workbook, art sheets, and assessments. The format is designed to allow students of varied reading abilities the opportunity to engage in the narrative (through text and illustrations), problem solve, discuss, and reflect. Recognizing students varied learning styles, each chapter includes seven integrative worksheets.
Emphasis is placed on social emotional learning competencies as well as achieving academic learning standards. The stories and extended activities encourage collaboration, divergent thinking, and responsible decision-making while encouraging artistic expression.
Smart Choices for a Digital Age 2: Social Skills, Technology, and Ethics (Community and Work) integrates the CASEL guidelines to address social emotional literacy. Chapters 1–9 feature dilemmas that occur within the community. Students receive support and guidance from friends, caring adults, and community leaders.
Chapters 10–18 feature dilemmas that occur within the workplace. Students receive support from caring adults, managers, job coaches, and community leaders. Digital technology is often employed as a means to assist in resolving the conflicts presented.
The Curriculum includes: Teacher's Guide, Student Reader, consumable Student Workbook, 18 downloadable chapter assessments, workbook pages, and 18 art expression activities.
The Curriculum Plus includes: The Curriculum plus a total of 2 Student Readers, 10 consumable Student Workbooks, the entire set of workbook pages as accessible GoWorksheets (iPad only), and samples of communication overlays. The GoWorksheets can be used with the free GoWorksheet app or the full GoWorksheet Plus app available on the App Store.
